Alien race that dig tunnels and are taking over the earth

I don't remember much. They arrived here, the reproduce rapidly they are almost impossible to defeat. they tunnel and attack from below. super hard to kill. somehow lured them to an alkaline desert witch weakened them allowing us to kill them. there is another alien here who warned us and is helping us to defeat them. one contingent of us wants him, another wants to protect him from them. the one image i remember is the end of the book. there is a satellite controlled by the friendly contingent monitoring after and they see our alien friend (his legs) peaking out from under an umbrella. His little green legs are wearing cowboy boots. I would really like to read that book again. NOT "the forge of god"

Could be the book the TV series "Tremors" (and all of the movies and other things) was based on. Giant worm-like creatures (the "Graboids") pop out of the ground and attack people. You have to stay on solid rock; they track vibrations on things moving on the surface.

nope not that but its like armored graboids. I don't think Graboids are alien, they have been here forever. these guys are definitely alien

I wonder if this could be the War Against the Chtorr series by David Gerold. The first book is A Matter For Men.
