(Found)Has anyone heard of this Awesome SciFi book??

Hi i am looking for this awesome book i cant remember the title but i never got to finish reading it. All i remember is that there was a boy who witnessed an alien destroy earth from a movie theatre. Then things get very post apocalyptic and there is a girl with a psychic connection to plants and can grow them and she loves them. There is a bum lady who is helping survivors. There are huge gangs causing problems and people in insane asylums escape and Insane criminals are running around killing people forming gangs. That is all i remember since i never got to read the end...if anyone knows i would really like to find it!

Swan Song by Robert R Mcammon. Good book
