Submissions Call Round-up

I presume when Gollancz say it is open to unpublished writers that they are referring to writers unpublished by advance-paying "pro" publishers, rather than self-published.

I presume when Gollancz say it is open to unpublished writers that they are referring to writers unpublished by advance-paying "pro" publishers, rather than self-published.
The actual wording is:

'Anyone with a completed story that does not have representation within a literary agency and has not previously been published in the UK.'

To me this means the book not having representation.

I just checked Gollancz's novel submissions window webpage - and noted that the novels they quote as examples are fantasy or horror. Science Fiction is definitely missing from that selection. Doesn't bode well for unagented science fiction writers......

Has anyone heard back from Angry Robot following the submissions open door back in Feb?

Not sure how to link this as I can't work Facebook (RANT: Every time I go look up something I end up wading through a seemingly never ending stream of ads and mindless junk ...went to look for a writing comp link and ended up scrolling down through ads for Screwfix and daft motivational quotes: END RANT) so the .jpg is below and I don't have any more info ...audio drama, prize is to get it made by actors/ producers and there's nothing to stop wormholes, robots and general outer space shenanigans from what I can tell.

During the months of January, May & September I challenge myself and any interested writers to submit at least 1 story every day to a paying market for a month. The markets are selected and checked by me (to be both open AND PAYING), the event does include Pro Paying markets.

I put up the market list on my blog normally about a month before the event to give people time to read market guidelines, select stories for them and get those ready for submission.

The rules are fairly simple. The only person who has to sub every day is me. Anyone else who wants to try is more than welcome. The markets cover SF/Fantasy/Horror/LitFic and some non-fic also. I tell people this, if you only sub once, at least it was one more than you otherwise might have. There are no guarentees of sales, but to date, everyone who has taken part has made at least once sale.

I can personally say I've made a pro sale thanks to the challenge.

The object of the challenge is to get you used to the submission process, be able to react quickly in the event a market isn't open and to deal with on-going rejections.
