A beautiful animation visually showing how a Black Hole can shred a star- though obviously on a speeded up timescale. :)

ADDED: Oh! And here's one with showing the first few days of another, with a timer:

Imagine seeing these things for real? Must be an awesome sight - even though a very distant telescope. :)

Surprisingly quick! Just a few days. We sort of expect astronomical events to happen over astronomical time scales

Nothing escapes and nothing survives a blackhole.

Well, Stephen Hawking would disagree.
Might depend on what is a thing? A thing implies information, and information does not emerge as Hawking radiation. The black hole just sort of evaporates into photons?

Just asking, and happy to learn ...

I eat black holes for breakfast... or is it Cheerios?

I loved that image when it was in the news recently, it is quite something that we're starting to learn about the universe these days.

If a Black hole came in our direction , we'd know it fairly quickly , it would affect the orbits of the planet it passed, some probable hurled into space.
