I'll have to think on this, I have a faint memory of a SF book where the protagonist had like five or six different bodies and he could mentally 'jump' into whichever one suited his needs

The Four Lord's of the Diamond series by Jack Chalker, has a book where that is a major feature. It's one of the last two, but memory fails beyond this.
