Sci Fic . Short story (futuristic) written years ago- about a Librarian

A futuristic short story written years ago. About a retired Librarian, who was the only one who finds the answer (in a book, or using only a word or phrase) to save the world when books have become obsolete.

No idea of the author. This is for a friend who has been searching for this for a long time...I never actually read the story myself).
