Hello, all. I'm attaching a fascinating article from the New York Times that deals with the role of the nervous system cells glia in chronic pain. I hadn't read about this before, and thought others may not have known much about it. It's an interesting read in its own right, but in case anyone here is either suffering from chronic pain, or knows someone who is, this may offer some hope (though effective treatment seems to be far away, still). I had no idea this was such a prevalent problem... the article states one in five people world-wide suffer from chronic pain.

Chronic pain/fibromyalgia runs in my family and I've been dealing with it for over a year. I've seen doctors and all they do is give me a blood test, then I don't hear anything back from them. I'm hopeful this latest research will lead to people like me being believed and diagnosed much faster. Thanks for sharing, CC :)

I'm very sorry about the trouble you and your family have had with this, Ashleyne. I hope one of those doctors does call you back, and with a treatment that will bring you some relief. And you're welcome, for the article. :)

edit - darn, it seems the first link doesn't work. Hope not too many people have had to cut and paste, to see the article. Let's try again:

It's unfortunate because chronic pain can be an early indicator of serious, diagnosable issues if time was taken to look. It's especially troublesome for women and girls who are often dismissed or culturally encouraged to bear pain in silence.
