I'm looking for a book I read in the 1980's, possibly 90's. It starts in the late 19th century and winds it way to the present day. It involves a secret society of industrialists and scientists who create inventions that far surpass anything known to the common society. They are completely amoral and use and experiment on humans, creating cybernetic slaves. They extend their lives through surgical and medical means unknown to the common society. They are responsible for the UFO phenomena and engaged in research and development on both sides of WW1 and 2. It was a pulp novel, the type found in airports. I have no idea who wrote it or any of the characters. It was rather thick, probably 200 to 300 pages. It was also lurid and explicit, reminiscent of Trevanian novels like Shibumi. If this rings a bell with anyone I would appreciate a response.
