The December Challenge thread is now up DECEMBER 2021 -- 75 Word Writing Challenge -- READ THE FIRST POST!!

Theme: A Christmas Carol
Genre: Open

Just to confirm, the theme can be interpreted in any way you want -- I don't intend it to be limited to the Dickens novella.

For newcomers who might not have come across an "open" genre before, it simply means that you can write in whatever genre you want -- SF, fantasy, ghost story, murder mystery, love story, Tudorpunk...

And we have a new prize for the Challenges! As most of you will know, Dan and Chris are creating the Chrons Podcast and they're offering the winner the chance of having his/her story read out on the next podcast. So start practising your RP and make ready your mini-recording studio, so you can recite your winning story at the end of the month! (Don't panic about it though. I'm sure they'll be happy to read it out if nerves or lack of technical know-ho get the better of you!)

Good luck everyone!

Thanks TJ.

And I can do accents. They all sound a bit like an angry Victoria Wood character but…
I also do accents. My range includes:

- Angry Brooklyn cab driver
- Glaswegian lying in a doorway
- Overweight Frenchman
- Yoruban crayon
- Lancashire hot pot
- Cat

Anyone got Shakespeare's number or David Mitchell at a push? I should really have read this thread before using comic English from the 1500s.

What am I saying? This is only for the winner. Nothing to see here, move on.

Thanks so much, TJ. I had the idea at 4am, got up, wrote it up and posted... and now I would change one word, if I could. But to only want to change one word maybe means I'm fairly satisfied with it. Thank you, CC

... and now I would change one word, if I could.
I try not to look at mine again after I post them just for that reason lol, because I think there is always one thing to be found that could be changed. I have a background in software development where you learn that sometimes you just gotta let things out even with imperfections, lest you sit on them forever waiting to get all the bugs out.

I agree, JS! It's always nice to get the stories posted here, because after a little while I can move past them, and not think much about the story till it comes time to vote. :) Hope your muse is visiting you for the Challenge, CC

I only do an Irish accent, but it's a good one.

A good theme for the time of year, that will have to be twisted through the 75 word grinder, so anything could happen.

Right then, back to business.

Pitchforks, get yer pitchforks here. Get 'em before the mob forms and while stocks last. Pitchforks... Pitchforks....

yesss, finally after 3 years of waiting December has become a festive season themed challenge again! this has whet my appetite enough to ignore everything i have to do for our imminent departure to Spain and write a challenge

Scanned the internet to see if there was a cartoon to show what that might sound like, but no dice, so you've got my vote whatever you end up writing ...and the votes of my children, and their children's children (for the length of this challenge);)
Well, here’s a picture of some Yorubans. I dare say West African crayons sound the same as anyone else’s, a bit on the squeaky side. Or is ‘crayon’ a reference to something else?
