DISCUSSION THREAD -- January 2022 -- 300 Word Writing Challenge #44

Ah, Ye Old Writing challenge.
The memories.
The memories!!!
I tells ye!!!
(Just warming up my punctuation, is all)
:)

@Peter V .... White (Lie) Wedding .... It is not unusual for a wedding night to have a surprise or two, but some surprises are bigger and better than others.

I thought I read somewhere, sometime, somehow, that WITCHES actually wore white. (This was before they became categorised as morally good or bad, as opposed to Good or Bad at being, well...a witch.)

@Mon0Zer0 .... In Time .... A tale that reminds us that our past is important but our reaction to it will determine what happens next and that it can be a beautiful thing.

Quick OT: They wore whatever they had, or needed. The white robe/ritual garb concept has been so garbled by time (and the erasure efforts of the first Christian priests) it's difficult to discern fact from guesswork/opinion.

Makes sense. Always thought dressing in black with a pointy hat was a little to ostentatious, even for the Magically gifted...

Peter V: The gentleness and compassion revealed in this elegant love story is sure to win the reader's heart. The protagonist wins our sympathy, as well as being a reflection of ourselves.

Mon0Zer0: In this surreal psychological fantasy can be found an allegory for how our doubts may be overcome, although not without a struggle. The sensory details provided by the narrative serve to strengthen this parable.

First, beautiful photograph, @Mouse! What a lovely dress, and setting.

Then - well, my entry's dark, but I do love horror. Wow, you really learn to appreciate the economy of words when you write for these Challenges. I started at 560, and cut down to 299. So many words had to carry more weight, perhaps, than they were built for. But it's great editing practice, too.

I'm so happy to be posted, so I can forget about trying to find one new word that stands in for two, or three. Good stories so far, and I look forward to reading the rest, come voting time, CC

edit to add note to @Mouse - I hope your husband's name isn't John! That was literally the first name that popped into my head. :)

@Cat's Cradle .... The Colors of Fireflies .... The Cat serves up a story of moody, dreamlike, reality; or is the reality a premonition? Or maybe it's hmm???

@paranoid marvin .... The Night Stair .... P. Marvin shows us his impressive understanding of church architecture and then clobbers us over the head with a twisty dark ending.

@johnnyjet .... The Bridal Trance .... J. Jet tells a tale of a wedding disaster which was averted by a woman's intuition and good thinking.

I'm pretty sure mine's not over 300. Scrivener's pretty good at this (I've yet to find a circumstance in which it doesn't tally properly after 8 years).

Normally I go a bit off-piste from the picture, but this time my idea was pretty literal.

I expect in a few years' time @Mouse will be subbing a pic for the 300 of herself in the delivery room, screaming at her hubbie as he tells her to breathe, just breaaathe. :D

@Phyrebrat .... Third Player .... Phyrebrat writes a piece that's filled with longing, unrequited love, and one of the best one liners I've ever read.

No promises, but this story is the most likely to get a vote of any of yours that I remember. It is very well done, and I was sucked into the story from the beginning.

this story is the most likely to get a vote
Not to influence any voting, and there's a lot of storytelling and story experiencation/ consideration to go in the challenge yet, but credit where credit is due -I thought that was extremely dark, but class.

I think I will be far too old for that sort of thing in a few years' time!
