Okay I have googled and googled until my brain is broken.

The first book of the story begins in a small village where a teen is working as a squire for a knight when the village is attacked by the emperor(I think he was, dark lord empire feeling) and the teen runs to save himself. During walk through windswept field a storm comes upon him and he is hit by lightning. Later wakes up found by lady who agrees to teach him the use of magic as he should not have survived the strike. (later surprise old lady is grandmother) Sends him on quest which he completes with help of new found friends that he meets along the way and ends up taking the friends in cause their village is attacked by the evil emperor dude as well. I have been looking for days on this and haven't been able to find anything. I read it a few years ago using kindle unlimited but its not in my history on there as I changed amazon accounts since then and don't have access to the other one. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I loved this trilogy and would love to get it again and re-read it as it helped me deal with a lot that was going on in my life at the time.

Although it won't be something I've heard of, I've found some good references on this site.
(Some are listed in the "Book Search Researches" pinned at the top of this page, ha, but some aren't, and some I found through my own searches.)

The Unz review is good especially if you remember some of the actual unique words and phrasing in the story, because it has a text search. It may only produce short stories. ("?" Still checking.)

Here, I typed "should not have survived lightning" in its text search. I had added "grandmother", but that produced more results than I could plow through. It produces a slew of short stories published in classic magazines like "The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction" and "Asimov's", and a few novels. Try it with different text in the search.

I don't use Google except under duress, so for another question I was searching in DuckDuckGo for "Books similar to Lord of the Rings", and found a Reddit page with excatly that question.

So I figured why not use it to find other trilogies I've never heard of? :)

So in that same Reddit page, I typed in "trilogy struck by lightning" and got this long list of answers.
You can add "grandmother" or some unique phrase or name you remember from the trilogy.

Then using DuckDuckGo ("The search engine that doesn't track you") to search for similar phrases produced this result: The 30 Best Fantasy Book Series.

The nice thing about that page is that it's already narrowed down to series, no single books or short stories to read past.

Now you will have the advantage of actually knowing the slightest first thing about this trilogy -- like ever having even heard of it, heh -- when you use these searches.

Happy Hunting!
