I have to confess, I absolute love watching Mother and Father, whenever they're together in the small screen. It also helps to think this as a faith story with SF elements than take it as a pure SF because there's so much mythology and theology mixed in the script. I know we haven't got many of those, and only two things sprung in my mind, Babylon 5's Sheridan storyline and StarGate's grey looking alien gods.
If I look into fantasy, the Preacher and Buffy would be my choices. But it is still a bit rare to get a biblical creation story with ultratech SF elements in the small screen offerings. And the thing is, they didn't put it out like that, but since the creation of the uberworm, it is my way of looking at the story and understanding its elements.
Mother and Father could be said to be Cain and Able, or Adam and Eve, or Abraham and Sarah (one of several women who couldn't have a child, but God promised one). But in this context they are acting as their god, the hacker wanted, against the belief system. It is an interesting twist. Yet, at the core, it is kind of obvious as while Marcus is mutating, the wyrm isn't actively hunting him.
So...
I don't think any of these "believers" as Mother called them, has anything to worry about from the worm, but from Father. I absolutely love that they are keeping cool and in the character, despite all being branded as red shirts. This is a serious production [/sarcasm]
"Maybe I deserve to be destroyed..." I loved Father's response and laughed at the believers, asking for going back. "No we continue."
As they came to the hunting ground, I loved that Father didn't hesitate on activating the lure. But all he found was Marcus and his tank. So who's hunting who?
The necroserpent is way too smart for acting like an animal.
Marcus jeesus moment. He is their messiah. He regenerated the damage visibly, before he caught the spear and showed his warface. That is the Ragnar I know. It is clear that Sol is keeping him safe and he understands it. Even acts upon it, knowing very well that he's going to be okay, because his god is with him.
It was so hard to see it in the first season, because the whole scene was misunderstood. It felt as if they all had gone bonkers. Not any more. But I hated him killing Father.
It was obvious that he died, for seeing the white blood, a wisp of blue smoke and orange flames going inside his skull. By all definition he's dead, but there is a chance for his resurrection since he's Ridley android.
What surprised me was that they chose the new church even though Lucious was vehemently against the idea.
This wasn't a random accident. Campion and Marcus' son was lead to Sol temple for a reason. Sure they were helping the small android, but it is so intriguing that the androids are true worshippers. It is no wonder that the girl android wish to be a real thing, and not just android. So in a way, none of them are limited by their programming on how to think or on what to believe.
What I don't get is why Marcus' son was against seeing Daddy and he told to the android girl to keep quiet about their visit to Sol's temple. The Collective however knew that he'd been in the temple and it allowed Paul to lie.
"You don't need to bother with silly traps. It would only have made him angry."
I loved her shooting at the trap, that for a moment looked like a cloaked worm. And I loved Atheist being reliant on the Covenant orders, whose champion Mother is. I believe that Ai wants to keep Mother alive and lose a few soldiers than lose her.
What I don't get why she was so accepting on their services but not making sure that Father survives?
It was interesting to see that Atheist reaching the foot of the mountain to catch mother recharging her batteries, before mother brought up the eye question. She clearly sees more than we are able get from the small screen. And her body was meant to do impossible things. So, I was in awe as as watched her scaling the walls and reaching the summit.
The humans could not have done it or even facing the uberworm without pissing their pants. That snake is huge.
Notice that tail keeps going. I estimate it to be at least 100 meters long, probably weighing 50 - 70 tons. And he's facing Mother as if he doesn't care a thing. What surprised was the bird sacrifice that Mother made to the wyrm. Yet, the boy wasn't interested. It only wanted the veggie balls.
"What happened?" - "You died, again." Oh children, you are the best and it starts to become a routine for them to resurrecting the dear old daddy. It surprised me that Mother captured the serpent, dragged daddy back home and then went to feed the number 7, before leaving the children to their task.
I so wish he would have a robot pub, where he could go to talk about his day and the problems on being a father to a scoopy gang. Maybe the most interesting aspect was that the androids "caregiving protocols" were clashing each other, just like it'd happen with a human family. They are not married, but they could as well be.
- Mother, you said something manipulated you into carrying it. This animal is more akin to a parasite than a child.
- No. It's part of me.
Father, you're arguing a losing battle and all at the end you end up doing is buying shoes or arranging furniture. Father, pub is calling. Only his pub turned out to be the android skeleton. And it was his who were serving the drinks to the android skeleton.
I am kind of worried that it might not be a good idea to resurrect a companion. Another intriguing detail was that Campion revealed that Father is most reliant service model that humans have ever built. So, in that perspective, it's no wonder how he come back to life.
It amazed and amused me that Father was resurrecting a female android. And it didn't surprise me that Father didn't want to talk about No 7. It's almost as if he was rejecting the baby as not his own.
In quest for the fuel blood, I loved seeing him facing Billy, industrial droid, at the same time paying huge homage to Ridley's Mad Max saga.
