Blade Runner 2099 Live Action Series in the Works at Amazon Prime

Well this is good news, but i'm skeptical as to whether it'll ever get to the screen.

Is this really a good thing? In my experience these spin off series are sub-standard, unimaginative, formulaic efforts, piggy-backing on the success of an original half decent book or movie. Why not find an exciting new work of fiction to serialse? There are plenty out there, but we are unlikely to ever see them as long as studios remain so risk-averse

I suppose that Amazon is looking to appeal to as many new customers as possible. With the likes of this show and (especially) the Lord of the Rings spin-off and the already existing franchises such as Picard, they likely will do.

They definitely have the budgets to create the best sets and attract the biggest name actors, and if they can recreate Middle-earth, Blade Runners futuristic world should be a doddle.

If it will be any good is anyone's guess, but with the money behind it and the world it is set in already imagined, there's no reason why it shouldn't be.

I agree that it would be good to see some new series. But they can only really come on the back of drawing customers in with 'known' titles.

Amazon definitely has the budget to try something different, but I think they first have to draw customers away from other services such as Netflix and the growing influence of Disney.

May I refer the honourable assembly to ‘Total Recall 2070’, which had more in common with Blade Runner than the original TR.

Although I didn't feel it was the great science fiction epic that everyone else did, the Expanse was pretty well done and I think I can trust Amazon to do it some justice. (Especially when it comes to the budget.)

It'll be interesting as to where they'll take this as the "Am i a human, or am i a Replicant" aspect has already been done. To do it a third time wouldn't be good.
