Hi Guys,

Just put out my latest - Gorgon's Run - on Amazon. Pubbed it as a Kindle of course and also as a paperback. But saw the new option of hardcover and did that as well. Had no end of issues trying to get the cover right - I think because the spine of a hardback is very slightly wider than that of a paperback. I think they've rejected the cover four times now!!!

But my real question is this. Anyone else doing hardbacks? And what do they look like? Any good?

Cheers, Greg.

I'm doing them.
Love the look and feel although it would be nice to have a dustcover option.

I didn't have any problems with the covers; however I don't use Amazon's cover generator--I do all the work based on the template and the graphics and my text are just more graphics that work just fine as long as you mind the keep out areas set by Amazon.

You really need to be mindful of the trim area around the edges as they need that for folding onto the cover and nothing critical should be in that area. Such as text. Then there is the extra area for the spine that is there for that bit of crinkle in the fold which also is a bad place for text to end up.

Two things about your book images.
The blurb text is really close to the edge and I'd say at best it is butted up against the keep-out area. That could cause a red flag if it seems too close. The title text of the soft edition has a similar potential problem.
Then:
The blurb on the back is unreadable with dark text on a dark image. I'm not sure if that gets flagged, but it definitely defeats the purpose of the blurb.

I'm not talking about the image in the--see this(or all) image[which can be pretty lossy]--I'm talking about the one in the sample for the both the hard bound and softbound. Those images for the cover and the back are much better representations of what the book will look like.

In cases like that I use a box that is transparent and mutes(lightens) the darkness to something lighter and then add the dark text or mute(darken) the lighter colors and add lighter text.

Hi,

Thanks for that. Hopefully it's all been fixed, but Amazon seems to be remarkably slow about replacing the old cover with the new one.

Cheers, Greg.
