A quick heads up that the Abergavenny Writing Festival is on in early April

Click on the titles in the link below for details of the various events

Even if you can't get the talks you want Abergavenny is a nice town to vist and mill around the festival generally

Great little place. Superb bakery opposite the Angel Hotel. Nice pubs and some cool shops. Brilliant pizza/Italian joint behind the main st, Really posh eating at the Walnut Tree or The Bell in Skenfrith.
And most of all, the surrounding countryside is some of the most beautiful anywhere in the world. It is essentially The Shire. Stroll the country lanes, walk up Skirrid or Sugarloaf. Look for ruined castles. Etc etc.

A video from the Festival featuring some members of local writing groups. Those of you with your own groups will recognise the eclectic mix of personalities and abilities that make up such groups.

Unfortunately the meetings were not especially well attended this year. I don't think normal life has quite got it's walking boots back on yet.

My own group attended a couple of talks. One was on commercial writing. Diverse speakers including Jonathan Page, the editor of BBC's Countryfile magazine and Fergus Collins who talked about technical writing (user guides, handbooks etc') apparently there is a world shortage of technical writers so, a rare thing today, opportunities abound for anyone with a modicum of skill.

Also there was an interesting talk by fiction writers about how they got into writing and their approaches (pantsers dominated)
We were also joined by video from America

I got into a chat with independent publisher Michelle Gordon after the talk and she said that, contrary to my ten year old conventional wisdom, that publishing houses will now pick up self published books that are selling well and have good reviews. So if you can get your sales above the parapet and nudge a contact....

Here is a shiny brochure of what went on. Maybe some published chrons can make it (or even talk) next year
