Another interesting note about Star Trek - while reading Wikipedia's entry on Leonard Nimoy, it mentions that he fought to make sure Nichelle Nichols got equal pay in the original Star Trek:


He also supported other cast members in getting hired for the animated series.

However, I'm told that Marina Sirtis, who played Deanna Troi in Star Trek: The Next Generation, complained that things had slipped back and women were not paid the same.
 
People on TV are never paid equally. Totally aside from discrimination, bigger stars or larger parts are paid more. Not an easy calculus to figure equity.
 
That's still a rare move for an actor 6 decades later!

(Note that his aim was to get Nichelle Nichols equal pay not with the main stars but with the other two supporting bridge crew!)
