Funny enough, there is as another recent post where the answer was Octavia Butler’s “Survivor” and that book features a young woman who becomes the mate of the indigenous leader, and the indigenous species is furred and can, indeed, camouflage themselves by changing color. I’m fact, in that story, it is a horrible form of public shaming to stain an enemy’s fur so they can’t change.
