Something that really bothers me about Stranger Things.

There was a detail early on where a woman used string-lights to communicate with her dead son. Thing is, I distinctly remember seeing that before at my grandma's house in the early 90's. Was that element recycled from an older movie, or have my memories somehow gotten crossed?

I do not know where the writers based that idea on, but the important difference here is that her son was not dead. He was in the Upside Down and somehow able to connect to the 'Upright World'.

I don't know why I typed "dead" when I meant to say "missing." Maybe "missing, presumed dead" was lodged in my scatterbrain and I wasn't being careful. (I blame the internet; it's very spotty because it rained.)
