Alan Grant

2000AD was my first science fiction experience and the stories remain with me some forty five years later. Your art was a huge part of that wonderful experience. Thank you.

RIP Alan.

Wagner/Grant were an absolute legend in the development of Judge Dredd. Shame the article doesn't mention the award-winning Dredd story America, which IMO was one of their finest works. Also, apparently both men fell out over the fate of Chopper in the 650-700 run of 2000AD, when for a brief moment the comic turned into a serious and mature trailblazer, with Rogue Trooper reinvented by Dave Gibbon, Strontium Dog and Slaine painted by Bisley, and the Judge Dredd Necropolis story arc, beginning with the Dead Man and its shocking revelation. Truly a great run, truly a great team, and a damn shame to lose Alan Grant - but he'll always be a towering force in British comics IMO.

Very sad to hear. America was one of the best Dredd stories, agreed. Everything he turned his hand to seemed to cast a shadow over other writers in the 80's / 90's. One of the British comics pantheon with Wagner / Moore / Gaiman / Miller / Ezquerra / Bisley / Gibbons, imho.
