Though not Rankin's first novel, this is his first entry in the burgeoning Rebus series, and its quite a good and short read. Nothing complicated here, just a good fast paced urban police story, with a few twists and turns along the way. Be interesting to see how many of the characters turn up in other books in the series...

Having made my way through Chandler, then The Saint, looking for more, I found Bosch and Rebus at the library for free. I read Rebus out of order. I found it didn't make any real difference . The characters are handled in great style which makes Rebus and the story the center of attention with everything else naturally falling into place.

That was just before covid struck, after that, I quit reading for unknown reasons. I am slowly returning to reading and will definitely hunt up some more Rebus books, even if I have to pay for them.
