Sci-Fi novel: middle-aged man wakes up in hospital with new powers, family at his bed. Goes on to meet President and fights terror and war.

He stays based in his home and can travel via his new power, brings President of US to his home. Seem to remember his family and at least some friends joining him in quest against violence. Hope this is not too vague. I original read it as an epub, not physical book.

It sounds like The Spaceship in the Stone but with super powers instead of an alien spaceship and technology.
