Here's a short essay by Rose Macaulay about the complete loss of her personal library in the London Blitz.
I was struck by how easy it would be, now, to get paperbacks of many of the books she mentions, and I don't mean print on demand editions, though those could be great at need. Others, one could look for online from used book sources.
This thread is for posting links to accounts of losses of lots of books, whether books of one's own or others' losses.
I've read one of Rose Macaulay's books, They Were Defeated, and liked it a lot.
Book-Building after a Blitz
In 1942, Dame Rose Macaulay lost her entire personal library when a bomb landed on her London flat. She embarked on recreating her collection.
