Some people may have seen this before, but just in case...
Attached is a YouTube video of 1932 footage from Chicago, Il. It depicts one possible solution to the overcrowding of vehicles caused by the explosion in car manufacturing at the time in the U.S. Land for parking garages was both limited, and very expensive in Chicago, and I've read that this vertical car park took the ground footprint of only six automobiles, but could store 48.
Also, this isn't the first use of vertical storage; I read that there was vertical parking someplace in France as early as 1905.
This seems such an ingenious solution to a new problem. Seems as though people thought they could solve any problem, back then. Although this solution must have eventually been proven impractical; I think this never became a widespread solution to parking problems.
