Goodreads and data.

Hello folks,

I’m struggling with a Goodreads issue. They keep sending me an email asking me to download my data before x-date.

I’ve read the email which I find inscrutable in that I’m not sure if this is optional or compulsory. As in, will my Goodreads account be deleted if I don’t.

Anyone shed any light?

I'm a member (not been on it very often mind you) but I've not received any email asking for data from me.

Either it has been shunted into my spam email, or perhaps its a scam?

However, typing "Is <your above query> a scam" reveals that it appears goodreads are discontinuing some features that you (perhaps) use therefore are giving you the option to save stuff that you might have put into the website that will soon be deleted?

I've not had one either - could be a scam. Get you to "download your data" by clicking the link in the email. Then you arrive at a clone site that looks similar, you log in and boom they've got your goodreads and likely your amazon account details.

If there is any data I'd expect a page within goodreads to be accessible as normal for that purpose.

Pretty sure it's only for creative material, your favorite author list and your list of owned books (added content), if any apply. If you don't have any of this, I assume you would not receive the email.

I have been putting up my blog pieces on there, which I understand will be deleted, hence the download request. I won't bother as they are copied from my website.

I haven't seen anything to suggest accounts or author pages will be deleted.

I hardly ever use Goodreads but I think I do have the aforementioned blogs/lists and did receive an e-mail, so that tallies.

Never had the email; however I have had goodreads accidentally delete all my bookshelves once and if I hadn't had those backed up I would have probably just said goodby to goodreads.

I received an email like this. Since I have everything on GR somewhere else, I just ignored it.
I doubt they will delete your account if you don't download things, it's just that you will lose the content (if any) from those aspects they are doing away with. That's what I gathered from the email. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I make a lot of notes on my kindle and I wonder if it’s those it’s telling me about.
