A heart-stopping simulation has been published showing the first few minutes after the Chixulub asteroid hit the Yucatán peninsula. As well as causing the dinosaurs to become extinct, it triggered a global tsunami that began as a wave more than a mile high. The tsunami scoured the ocean floor thousands of miles from the impact site.
