thats all I remember and I do recall i enjoyed these as a young man, along with The Starstormers books.

Yeah sorry should have mentioned this it was probably around late 80's to early 90's that I read these and I don't recall much more

The girl had male friend and other than the Purple Fringe and the Maze around the village, in fact the maze may not have been a maze but a spell that hid the entrance to the village and if you didn't know it was there you just drove around in circles, I cannot recall much else other than enjoying them immensely.

British village think Midwich or any village green afternoon cricket type place but contemporary for the time.

It would probably be classed as a YA book very much in the style of early Harry Potter.
