The crux of her character was that where everyone else wants to stand out she was happiest just being boring and mundane staring off into what I think was a type of moss or grass "ocean"? The planet she lived on was full of unremarkable people living short lives. The spores or fungus in the air usually killed people sooner than they would normally die.
I read the first chapter or what could possibly have been a teaser chapter this year so it's not an old book I don't think. I mainly read young adult novels so most like not a space opera but I can't think of where I'd find it. Any help would be hugely appreciated!
