Indiana Jones And The Dial of Destiny (2023)

I've mentioned it elsewhere, but I'm still staggered that they didn't use the script from Fate of Atlantis for Indy 4 or 5. Brilliant storyline, great characters (including a sassy sidekick Sophia Hapgood) and a some sharp dialogue. These are the reasons why it is considered as one of (if not the) best adventure game of all time. Quite why they wouldn't have consdered that it would have translated well into a movie I don't know.

They did comic adaptation book Fate of Atlantis and I thought it quite good. It would made a superb film.

Thanks, I'll check that out. The PC graphic adventure is superb, and I heartily recommend anyone to play it (available for pennies on Steam/Gog etc)

The film premiered in Cannes

It cost 300 Million to produce . Wow ! o_O

Has anyone seen this yet? I've no confidence in Disney any more and i want to read what fellow Chrons member think before i commit to spending my Earth monies on it.

The fact that the reviews are mixed bothers me a bit . :(

From what I've seen and read, this is a prime example as to how Disney is ruining Lucasfilm.

Another example is that Willow has not only been cancelled, but withdrawn from Disney Plus.

Die Hard should have finished after 3 movies. Star Wars should have finished after 3 movies. Superman should have finished after 3 movies. Indy should have finished after 3 movies.

Back To The Future knew when to stop; why doesn't anyone else?

Easy - Hollywood generally lacks imagination. They tend to think that one successful movie means a series of successful movies can be done, like the James Bond movies.

That's actually a great point, Paranoid Marvin. Why aren't there more in the way of original stories in the cinema?

I read that this movie cost nearly $300 million to make. Add onto it the advertising, you're probably looking at a $billion just to break even. Surely that is not sustainable?

I think that Lucasfilm are desperate to hand the whip to someone new for the franchise. The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull wasn't well received, so that was Shia Lebeouf out. Now they're trying to hand over to Phoebe Waller Bridge.

It's so funny how they jump through hoops trying to avoid traditional depictions of heroism.

Only someone clueless would have picked Shia LeBouef as a successor to a pulp action character--but then again, Indiana Jones was never really a pulp adventurer--he was designed as a deconstruction of the heroic character from first movie.
Unlike Doc Savage --until the studio meddled with it.

Hollywood is ruled by the play it safe mode of thinking. And on the occasions do try something now and original, more often then not , they manage to find some way of screw things up for themselves.

Over the long term , such expenditures on Cinema are not sustainable and could conceivably hasten the demise of Cinema and the bankruptcy of the Hollywood studios.

Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is not a bad film and. I had no problem with Shia Lebeouf or his character of Mutt Williams. I doubt there will be a sequel or film series with Phoebe Waller Bridge Given how much it cost to produce this film, It does'n't seem likely that this film will make enough money to cover all those costs.
