The Guardian: Best SF and Fantasy in 2022

No, not heard of any of them. The only one that might appeal is the McAuley. TBH my interest in new books is extremely limited, unless they’re by authors I know. Too many old books to worry about new ones!

I’ve read Sea of Tranquility. Mandel is a terrific writer, I’d highly recommend her (I’m all for finding new terrific writers!). Each of her 3 books I’ve read - Station 11 (best dystopia I’ve read in years), The Glass Hotel (harder to describe but terrifically rewarding), and Sea of Tranquility (questioning the reality of our world) are loosely interlinked, thought provoking and give hope and reward in seemingly tragic places. Currently my number one buy-on-the-day-of-release author.

Babel is supposed to be good but I think some of Huang’s earlier stuff might stand up to better scrutiny
