Looking for title/author.

A man is either walking home or is at home and notices that a dark shadow is enveloping his neighborhood. It blots out everything, so that nothing is visible. As time goes on, he notices it coming up his sidewalk.

I believe he’s at home with his wife also. He realizes that it is the end of the world.

Thank you for your help.

Allowing for the usual degree of brain fog that develops over the years, it might just be...

but I don't think there's any mention of a wife...

"The Street that wasn't there" aka "The Lost Street" by Clifford D SImak and Carl Jacobi (1941)

An elderly recluse has gone on exactly the same evening walk to buy a cigar at exactly the same time for twenty years. This evening is different. He arrives home fifteen minutes early without his cigar. He begins to realise something is very wrong. By next morning when he looks out his window there's nothing there.
