ST:D cancelled, Star Trek fans pleased

I didn't like this series in the very beginning but over time, I got to like it .
 
It was at least one I could see.
With the end of ST: Picard as well I expect all future Treks to be on Paramount or CBS. And I'm not ready to take out another streamer subscription.
 
This was on my 'to be watched' list. I'm glad I never started watching, as it annoys me watching a show that gets cancelled.

Tbh there seem to be far too many big money shows that get dropped before they reach any kind of satisfactory conclusion, and I'm fast getting to the point where I'm not sure I'll ever watch it until the final episode of the final season has been aired.

The BSG spin-off Caprica got it right when, knowing it was not to be renewed, had a final episode that gave an end to the story. The very, very least that these large, multi million-billion dollar companies can do for those who invested their valuable time in the franchise is to give them a final episode to round things off.

Personally I'm of the belief that no show that has a specific story arc needs to run for more than 3 or 4 seasons.
 
It's sad for me to see any Star Trek series cancelled, since I know what it was like during the few times when there was nothing new, but Discovery was a strange beast. It was unlike other ST series because (at first anyway) it focused on the story of a character, Michael, rather than that of a ship, and then later, in the future, it became so unlike Star Trek that it could have been any SF starship-based TV show. When in the past, they had all the problems associated with keeping to canon that beget Enterprise, but even more so. When in the future, it just wasn't Star Trek enough for me. At least, you can tell that Picard is a Star Trek series. Also, as @paranoid marvin just said, if it's story arc was telling the story of Michael, it pretty much completed that when she met with her mother, and everything since has seemed like a pointlesss extension.

I never finished the first season either. To me, this was so far from being "science" fiction that I couldn't get interested. And now, after seeing (and reading) the expanse series, and "The Martian" I have more of an appetite for harder sci fi that features what real engineers and scientists may be doing in the near future.

Season 2 with Pike is better.
