It appears that how technology has impacted the writers world is at the center of the walkout. AI is mentioned with writers apparently strongly against its use as a replacement for writers while the production companies seem to be saying it is too early to know how it will impact the industry. For the most part, the production companies are maximizing writers efforts while minimizing writers income.

Current business practices are requiring less use of writers from start to finish of a program. The writers say that there needs to be a lot of interaction between writers and everyone else involved in the production of the show. This trains new writers on how things get done. Without the interaction of writers the quality of the final product will erode over time the same way technology has eroded the writers quality of life.
