The oldest literary prophecy

The 1920 novel The Metal Monster by Abraham Merritt had a race of machines with a method of communication and connection resembling Wi Fi . I've no idea if this is the fist story or novel to do this.
 
Not the oldest, but I remember an Arthur C Clarke story were smoking was banned, and even the depiction of smoking in movies was being airbrushed out. This at a time was the idea of a smokeless society would have seemed unimaginable.

That was a common theme in P K Dick stories. Often ciggarettes were illegal while marijuana was legal. In one story, some cops were after some pedophile guy, but since the age of consent had been lowered so much they couldn't charge him, the cops then saw an overflowing ashtray and charged the guy for having a 'cigarette party'
