2d rpg games recommendations?

It pretty much has to be Baldurs Gate. Maybe also Planescape Torment. Both cheap, with vast worlds, easy to learn and with great storylines. And with varying make ups of parties and ways of playing, (almost) infinitely replayable.

Chrono Trigger is a great classic. Stardew Valley is also very good and addictive, is that an rpg?

You can get the best RPG ever made, Phantasy Star IV, on Steam for under a pound.

Old, but super cool.

Terraria

Stardew Valley

Ori And The Blind Forest

not rpg, but if you enjoy physics World of Goo is terrific

Rimworld

and it's great granddaddy, Dwarf Fortress

Both are great story generators, although DF probably needs the same effort as university degree to master....

I liked very Kingmaker and Wrath of the Righteous cRPGs from Owlcat. Thay have things I loved in old Infinity Engine Games and some more.

I liked a lot about Kingmaker but wasn't a fan of how the strategic kingdom management system worked. The approach in Wrath of the Righteous is a lot better, I think.
