Ace Books, the prominent sf publisher of the 1960s, issued a series of about half a dozen short novels based on the Man from UNCLE television series. The novels tended to have somewhat science fictional elements, and some of the books featured references and allusions likely to be appreciated by the science fiction fan community. The two novels credited to "Thomas Stratton" were co-written by Gene DeWeese and Buck Coulson. They wrote the fannish Charles Fort Never Mentioned Wombats, and in their UNCLE novel The Mind Twisters Affair there's an otherwise puzzling reference to a college professor trying to find a wombat loose on campus.

Anyway, given the sfnal elements and the fannish elements, some Chrons people might want to talk about the books here.

Ive seen those books , never read any of them.:(

I read a couple. Fan David McDaniel wrote some. In The Dagger Affair (number 4 in the series) U.N.C.L.E. and THRUSH have to work together to defeat an even worse menace. The author establishes that THRUSH stands for the Technological Hierarchy for the Removal of Undesirables and the Subjugation of Humanity, and that it was founded by Professor Moriarty.

...I see the wombat reference in the UNCLE novel actually preceded the Charles Fort-wombat story by ten years. But wombats and fandom go back a long way if I'm not mistaken. "Wombat" was the nickname of noted fan Jan Howard Finder.
