(Found) Book by Andre Norton (I think)

Written in the 1950s. A spaceship containing a multi-species crew has crashed on an unknown planet.
I remember that one of the characters was descended from flightless avians. I think maybe the first letter in his name was F. May have had the word Star in the title (as did many of her novels).
