Rebel Moon - Part I - Child on Fire (Netflix) - 2023

Was it not implicit that the princess and her bodyguard may have switched places? I mean, that could be a double-bluff, curveball that we will get thrown, but I thought that it was there, and it is possible in any case.

Why was the Monarchy loved so much (for 200 generations or so - I forget exactly what was said)? It hadn't seemed to have made the life of the Rebel Moon village easy or comfortable, so while the army that overthrew the Monarchy is far worse, it appeared that the society in this Galaxy was always inequitable.

Will this one do?
Browser problem? I just don't get why I'd get a black screen.
My suspicions are on Arthelais. There is something in her recounting of her time as the princess' bodyguard that holds an unspoken disappointment of her expectations of the princess. And why or how else did Arthelais become a rebel?
Because she was framed? That's what I'm thinking. It'd be a strong, clear motivation. Especially one with her background and skills.

31/12/23 If the movie was so bad as the critics said, why is this still a thing? Also, thank you Dave.

The critics have other criteria than 'ordinary' viewers do. Even cinematically not-optimal movies can be enjoyable. As have been proven countless times.

Added this to my list. Will see how I get on but I’m so low maintenance when it comes to spaceships and sf I’ll prob lap it up
Not that many spaceships, and the SF is a bit loose, but you might like it. Just get mellow before you do, and it'll just roll through.

Good imagery can help to overlook some of the flawsView attachment 113811
Yeah, but too much eyecandy is just too much. There is a lot of it in this film. But I for one, liked some of its symbolism, and hated others. To be honest, I could see the clock ticking down as they got the band together. It's just the transition back to moon was an obvious point that something was going to happen because of that clock.

Clever films hide it, like for example Tarantino's Kill Bills/Reservoir Dogs and you cannot count on that revealing big things. In this one, a lot of characters got their introductions. So we don't have to worry about that in the future, but can enjoy the Part II whenever it comes out.

I believe the second part will be better for exactly that reason. However, if they defeat starship troopers with bows and arrows or kill off and revive Atticus Noble any more times, I'll be out.

It is clear he enjoyed himself. And, in this case, not entirely unjustified. But you can ridicule any movie this way, if you want. Personally I take that 'Honest' with a grain (or two) of salt.

Honest Trailers seem to have an easy time ripping into this:
It is much less like Star Wars and Seven Samurai than that makes out, but as I already said, maybe not enough different to make it really interesting.

There is a lot of talk about "grain" and a lot of exposition dumps, but they are hopefully all out of the way now, as they rightly say. Worth watching (even if just to pull apart.)

This morning I downloaded the ebook of Rebel Moon part one - at some time I'll get around to reading it.
There's just too many books lately, I'm having to make some hard choices in what I read!

I think I am just too old now. I looked forward to it, watched it, did not feel much of anything during it, besides cringe when we again have "a bunch of nasty soldiers and local girl" scenario. I think I just expected too much, like the villain being her ex she believed she lost long ago ... you know, for the personal stakes and drama.

Avoid the book peeps, it's poorly written and not worth getting, enjoy the show instead

I saw this and left early. It's written and directed by AI right?
No, what I think he's trying is what we do sometime in the books and do things in certain order, like introducing the characters first and then the real story. We have a couple of weeks to go before the Part II drops, and we'll get to see either the madness or brilliance, or a version of brilliant madness verging on weirdness.

I just saw this and, wow! I don't think i've ever seen anything as bad as this. So cliche'd. It borrowed from everything and gave us nothing. It reminded me a lot of Battle Beyond The Stars in terms of story.

I thought Ed Skrein tried to put in a good turn, and the soundtrack attempted to be pretty cinematic.
