NEWS FLASH -- Erikson to be GoH at FantasyCon 2005
Yes, it's official. Steven Erikson, top PS (not to mention Transworld and Tor Books) author and creator of the best-selling Malazan Books of the Fallen series, has accepted the British Fantasy Society's invitation to be one of this year's Guests of Honour at the Society's FantasyCon, to be held on 30 September through to 2 October 2005 at the Quality Hotel, Bentley, Walsall. Steve will be joining fellow GoHs Mark Chadbourn and Simon Clark to make this year's Con an event to remember.
For those who are familiar with FantasyCons over the past 30 years or so, you know what to expect. For those who haven't yet sampled the joys of its whirlwind phantasmagoria (I always wanted to use that word somewhere...) of story readings, book launches, author signings, late-night and early-morning barroom conversations (not to mention mid-morning, lunchtime, mid-afternoon and early-evening ones as well), book rooms, film shows, discussion panels, interviews, quizes, one-on-one writing and scripting workshops, the legendary Saturday night Raffle, and the annual BFS Awards Banquet... then be advised -- you need to mend your ways immediately: they're a hoot... a great fun-filled few days spent with like-minded souls and chatting informally with some of your favourite authors. Don't delay -- make sure of your place now! Visit the BFS website for more information, or preferably to sign up for the Convention.
For the record, we're hoping to have a good few new books available for the first time at the Convention -- Steven Erikson's surreal novella, FISHIN' WITH GRANDMA MATCHIE; Joe Hill's 20th CENTURY GHOSTS collection; Ramsey Campbell's new novel, SECRET STORIES; Mark Morris's new novel, NOWHERE NEAR AN ANGEL plus Mark's remarkable CINEMA MACABRE, a ground-breaking essay-anthology of favourite horror movies chosen by the likes of Neil Gaiman, Simon Pegg, China Miéville and 47 more; and possibly even issue number 5 of POSTSCRIPTS. Fans should also note that, if we are indeed able to get CINEMA MACABRE out in time, trade editions purchased at the Convention will come with a specially printed and numbered autograph sheet for readers to get as many signatures as possible over the three-day event. As they (myself included) used to say... be there or be square! See you in the bar...
Happy reading!
Pete
