Creative procrastination

I've also had a small problem with creative procrastination in terms of writing a book. I've settled on writing a science fiction book as an author. But that took me over three years of putting off the labor of love that is writing.

The reason why I took so long to actually begin writing my first book, is because I didn't feel the calling, the urge to take it seriously. That has changed recently.

For me procrastination comes in two flavours, useful and non-useful. Kind of like having a buscuit with a cuppa or eating the whole damn packet in one go. Useful is pondering what I want to write or surfing for ideas, usually by going out for a walk, I literally can't sit and come up with ideas or dialogue (at least not my best). Movement of the body seems to get things flowing. First thing in the morning works as well when I've just woken up. Non-useful is having an internet break "to think" or going on line to "research" and getting lost down the rabbit hole. Often in order to write I have to go out to a cafe or somewhere with no internet to distract me

I'm across the pond from you, and it's the same for me too. Sometimes, many cups of tea! But once I get writing... All is good for the moment.

Meanwhile, I have unused art materials gathering dust for years.

Luckily, it’s quite common to do this

There is an official Campaign for Procrastination group.

They were protesting outside the Parliament the other day - with the old-age chant...

What do we want?
Procrastination!
When do we want it?
Err...tomorrow will do.
