I am trying to remember a novel that I read, perhaps in the '80s. I don't remember the name, or the author. The novel was fantasy, in english, and not very old at the time, so perhaps '80s. It was a hard cover book, and I don't recall the book cover at all.
One of the main points I recall of the story was that the land (kingdom?) was guarded by statues along the border, and I had the impressions that they were like the Moai statues of Easter Island.
The only thing I remember of the plot was that there was a prophesy of a savior who would come and free the people of the kingdom, and that the main character seemed to match the prophesy. Ultimately, it turned out that it was not really a true prophesy, but rather a description of what it would take to bring down the ruling class, and therefor what to look out for.
The thing about the "prophesy" seems pretty unique, so I hope it's not too hard to find. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Roy.
