DISCUSSION THREAD -- June 2024 -- 75 Word Writing Challenge

Thanks for all the well wishes! My surgery went well, and I'm beginning the long and painful recovery process.

Happy to be back and checking out those running toward the finish line. Looks like a nail-biter!
Meniscus or full? Meniscus 2X for me on same leg with full in my future, depending.

I've had meniscus both knees. One when I was about 10 and one when I was about 17. And between those two I had a bad hernia . I don't think I was put together properly.

One knee I've got a big scar from open surgery, the other I've got a few tiny scars from keyhole. Remarkable difference in just a few years

Congratulations, DaCrazyCat29! Well done, all.

Glad your surgery went well, johnnyjet!

Looking forward to July's Challenge, CC

Congratulations @DaCrazyKat29 that was a very original piece and well deserved win.

As for my own story almost from the beginning I knew I wanted to do something about someone getting a bright idea. It seems that light and new/good ideas have always been linguistically tied together. Beyond that my preferred genre of S.F. and recent reading/consideration of the cutthroat business of looking for plum academic jobs sort of merged into my story. It actually got more run than I thought because it didn't have anything to do with literal light.

Congrats @DaCrazyKat29

Thanks for the mentions folks. I went with @Daysman because I liked the flow of the words.

Mine was about extroverts and introverts. As an introvert, I find being around some extroverts to be mentally tiring. Even worse, the tik tok generation of look at me. Often, I just fancy sliding into the social shadows.

Congratulations @DaCrazyKat29 on a well deserved victory

Ya have to post them now ...otherwise it sounds like it was all just a dream ;)
Well fine then, though I maintain this is not proof that I'm not dreaming you, nor that you're not dreaming me. I make no apologies or guarantees regarding any meh-ness or overly obvious inspirations, either real or perceived, and cannot in good conscience promise or commit to forgoing naps and/or being more punctual in the future.

Enjoy.

Try the veal!

The soul isn't quite what you think.

It's an ethereal thing, the spark of life, present in all living things. Your language fails to describe it.

It persists for but a moment after death, but in that moment, it is available for consumption.

This spark, this light, is nourishing for my kind.

In humans, though, it is stained by your sins, by innocence lost.

So I applied for a nursing job at the children's hospital.

Postremo, In Lucem Stellarum

We heed the call
Of Lord long dead
From Void the Banished come

By strength of steel
By will of faith
Through Lands of darkened Lost

Our valour won
On blood-soaked fields
We pass through Death and back

Our path does lead
To Tree of Life
Defiled in leaf and fruit

Fury divine
Imbues our souls
Black flame to cure the rot

The Lands lie cleansed
Our oath fulfilled
The starfield calls us home
