A film by Robert Eggars which will be coming around Christmas . They posted the first trailer on the dark Horizons Website and it looks amazing!

I am assuming the vampire will be given a sympathetic edge. The enduring strength of the original was that the vampire is totally a creep. But most Hollywood-linked Draculas make him a romantic character (unless he is facing Bud and Lou, Blade, the Monster squad...)
The actor playing Orlock said the film would be "very sexual" so it's not going to be faithful to the original in that respect.

Given that the first Nosferatu by F.W. Murnau was merely a redressing of the Dracula story (because he was refused filming rights by the Stoker estate). it’s safe to say that this is another Dracula remake.

Where Murnau scored big was on his movie’s almost iconic visuals. I didn’t think that could be repeated but Werner Herzog (with Klaus Kinski in the role of Nosferatu) came pretty close. So, two very strong previous incarnations therefore means that this latest iteration has a lot to live up to.

The trailer does look good though so we can live in hope.:)

The Hand Shadow was a nice nod to the first film.

I’ve just realised that Willem Dafoe played Max Schreck in Shadow Of The Vampire and he’s also in this incarnation of Nosferatu.

I wonder if it’s simply a coincidence or perhaps a moment of casting humour from the director.

The casting of William Dafoe has the look of being intentional. If so , I love it .

Well, I enjoyed both The Witch and The Northman immensely, and The Lighthouse is one of my favorite films. Eggers is batting three for three for me thus far, so I'm quite optimistic he'll deliver again.

Not sure I entirely agree. The final scenes of the original can be seen, at least symbolically, as sexual. And there's an element of that in the novel, as well as in "Carmilla," which influenced Stoker. It might be fairer to say this one will be less subtle (maybe a lot less subtle) than the original.

Yes, but most people aren't thinking of it when his shadow is going up the stairs.
He's a creep!

The shadow of his hand clutching her heart was also effective.
For years I assumed Max Schreck actually looked like that. I was surprised when I saw how he actually looked.

I don't remember SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE well but I did like the idea (and the casting of John Malkovich as Murnau).

The reason why the original movie was so well received was a combination of the cinematography, special effects and the astounding acting ability of Schrek.

It left audiences wondering how the actor was able to do the things he did, and lookbthe way he looked; was he truly a vampire? (which is from where Shadow of the Vampire takes its inspiration).

The new movie will not do these things, and is merely a slight rebranding of the original 'Dracula' story.

I suspect that the movie itself will be full of guts and gore, with plenty of 'shock' scares; which the original movie wasn't.

There's a new trailer out.

At the end you can

see the shadow of the vampire I assume. Looks like he has hair--or an unusually long head or collar. And he doesn't have a hook nose like the original. I get a "Gary Oldman as Glenn Close" feeling from that profile shot.
