In 1980, Robert Heinlein, at the end of the 2nd volume of "Expanded Universe", provided an essay called "The Happy Days Ahead". It contains his (trademark version of Libertarian) views on the decline in education, the military, inflation, and the growth of government.

He ends this essay with a brief short story, seldom mentioned, called "Over the Rainbow". This is Heinlein's tale of a woman Vice President of color, who succeeds a President who has died unexpectedly, and immediately proceeds to set things right, up to and including tearing down the wall between Texas and Mexico. Written more than 44 years ago.

If you're a Heinlein fan, you might have thought of this story when Biden stepped aside for Harris :)

(Expanded Universe Vol 2 is available in Audible, and through many libraries - either in hard copy or through Hoopla. Used copies available from various sources. It is one of my favorite books on Heinlein's influences and thinking.)
