I got through a number of books last month, including all three of Robin Hobb's The Liveship Traders novels which I enjoyed, but reading has fallen off over the last week or so. I've still got Rachel Hartman's Shadow Scale half-read and I looked at a bit more of Tad William's Shadowmarch which I started back in the spring, but otherwise I'm not sure whether I'll continue with them or look for something new in September.

What are you reading this month?

Blood Meridian, by Cormac McCarthy. I just read through the battle with the Natives last night--what a scene! Great book by the same author of No Country for Old Men (which I only seen the Cohen Brothers movie).

Just started Doctor Sleep -the sequel to The Shining.
I'm always a bit sceptical about sequels written so many years apart but, so far, I'm really enjoying this one:)

I finished all 5 of the Earthsea series by Ursula K. LeGuin: A Wizard of Earthsea, The Tombs of Atuan, The Farthest Shore, Tehanu, and Tales from Earthsea.

I had read the first two in the past, but this is my first time completing the series. The Earthsea series feels more of a mythic or spiritual journey than other adventure stories. I enjoyed reading the later books more now than I probably would have when I was younger since the stories (loosely) follow Ged through his life. I feel I have aged with him and it is symbolic of the adventure of life.

Currently reading Son of The Poison Rose which IS Book 2 of the Kagan the Damed trilogy . next on the docket is book 3 A Dragon In Winter. :)

I finished Bittersweet by Susan Cain last night. Based on the quiz at the beginning of the book, I fit into this category. I found the book really interesting, and even comforting in a way. It's always nice to read something where you realize you aren't the only one. This was a library book, but I will probably purchase my own copy in the future.

@Stephen Palmer, I just saw your post in the August thread about this book. I will agree there were some chapters that didn't sit as well with me as others, but the overall takeaway for me was good.

Now onto some magical realism, The Story Collector by Evie Woods. I enjoyed her first novel, The Lost Bookshop, so hoping for another good read.

A nice new mil SF - it looks to be the start of a series - aren't they all nowadays?
I'd sooner have a trilogy or a stand-alone, (at least you know when the tale is done).

There is also a sixth book in the series, The Other Wind which builds on some of the stories in Tehanu and Tales from Earthsea.
