The Culture.

Iain M. Banks's Culture fits the bill in my opinion. An extremely powerful machine/human hybrid society known throughout the galaxy for its meddling and just having fun. I get the impression that other societies in Banks's greater galaxy were bemused and somewhat envious of them in equal measure. I think other equivalent civilisations would've sublimed at this stage, but The Culture is hanging in there.

The Shadows and the Vorlons from Babylon 5.

The last of the "Old Ones" staying behind to shepherd the younger races, but ended up using them to wage a proxy war over their own ideologies. Both races were seen as very powerful indeed.
