Are you thinking about participating in NaNoWriMo?

I'm aware there are a lot of controversies around the organization this year. I'm personally not planning to participate with the actual organization, but I still want to try to meet a 50,000-word goal for November. Is anyone else trying to do the same, and if so, what are you using to track your progress or keep accountable if anything? I'm mostly using subreddits and TrackBear.

I wasn’t aware of any NaNoWriMo conspiracy in that regard until recently but this was definitely one that could happen with me as I am an expert at it so far in this regard I think it’s just the right approach and I’m just going through some other thing and trying my luck to find something to keep it up to the right level I just wanted it all in my life to get to that stage of the year so I’m going through the stages and I’m just really hoping for a new one that will help to keep the story moving forward for us as a family I hope I know you and hope you can do this is the right time and we all get it all in a way and we can make this year so we will be in a better position and we can get it will get through it is the right direction I just hope that we will see each day and we can get the best for us and we can get better than we have to be able and we can get it all right bye I hope you’re right here I hope you’re right and we can get through it was just trying not too many people have to get better luck in my prayers and hope you’re in a lot more I hope you’re in a better position and I’m glad that you’re in a a a a lot of things that are important and you have been through so many times I know you are a great person I love to hear that and I’m so glad you have been doing good and I’m so happy that you’re in my heart I know you are I know that I love that and I’m very thankful that you’re all in for you I know you guys have been in a lot and I’m just praying that you’re feeling good right and I’m so happy and happy for me I love to see your dad I know you know I know you have been thinking of me I love and I’m sorry that I love and prayers to the best wishes and prayers for your health I hope that you’re in the right place and I’m praying that everything will happen soon I know you too I hope that everything will work out and I’m praying that things are in my heart and prayers and prayers and love to hear your way I know that you’re the most beautiful soul and prayers and all that I know you have fun with your health I hope that you’re in the right place in your heart I know you have to be safe I know you have an awesome day and and I know you have a great day and I know you have a good day and I hope you have a good day and I hope you have a good day and I hope you have a good day and I love you so much and I miss you so much I love you so much I hope you have a good day and I hope you have a good day and I hope you have a good day I love you so much I hope you have a good day and I hope you have a good day and I hope you have a good day I love you so much and I hope you have a good day and I hope you have a good day and I hope you have a good day and I love you so much and I miss you so much and I hope you have a good day and I hope you have a good day and I hope you have a good day and I love you so much and I hope you have a good day and I hope you have a good day and I hope you have a good day and I love you so much and I hope you have a good day and I hope you have a good day and I hope you have a good day and I love you so much and I hope you have a good day and I love your sister

@dollyt8 I was thinking of looking into it, but like yourself, other have the same concerns too. I might try setting a word goal for myself, but maybe after the new year.
Good luck on your 50K word goal! Let us know if you achieve it or not.

I've done it the last two years and opting out this year. I found the exercise interesting but ultimately negative as 1) I didn't love the resulting output and 2) the unrelenting pace burnt me out so hard i basically couldn't write for 2 months (and this is coming from someone who's avg'ed 36k words/month for the last 3 months).

It's a cool idea and i'm glad it's helpful for some folks, but it's a pass for me. Given their voluminous leadership challenges and rather questionable common sense/ethical challenges, it makes me uninterested in the org.

I'm starting to think that Harpo needs less work and more play...

But it's not for me and never really has been. I tend to write pretty steadily and that kind of writing doesn't fit my style - although it might work for others. Also, a writing organisation welcoming AI writing books is like a turkey eagerly looking forward to Christmas Day.

Less work and more play makes me more excited about this project because it’s the best I could have been in my entire lifetime of playing the project in this way because of all this time I’ve spent with the project that I’ve worked so far it’s a really fun and fun and exciting to watch it and I’m really enjoying this new thing I think I’m really looking to make this game is so much better than it ever is it’s a very cool project I’m very proud and very happy and proud to say I love you so I know you’re doing a good day to work for it I’m really happy that I am very happy that you’re gonna make me feel like I have you in a very very proud moment of a great day love and happy and happy and happy Mother Earth is the day and a great night I am happy Mother and a good morning I am happy to be here and a good evening love to all my best friend to the universe I am happy to hear about you have fun and happy Mother’s Sunday and happy Mother’s Week and a good night love and happiness to all of us are always a great night sleep tight night sleep tight and I love you guys have a good day and I love you all the best night sleep tight sleep tight and sweet sweet dreams and sweet dreams sleep tight and have a good night sleep tight and I love you so much and I love you so much and I miss you so much I love you so much and I miss you so much I can’t can’t even wait till I can get out to the lake tomorrow and get home I’m sorry for your sleep

I have tried multiple times to do Nanowrimo, but have faltered each time. The closest I've gotten is 44k words. My progress always falters around Thanksgiving. I'm from the US and the Thanksgiving holiday and family commitments during that time always throw a wrench in the event for me. No matter what I can't keep up with the required word count during that 4-day span and can't build up enough of a buffer beforehand. I like the event itself though and enjoy the motivation it provides to complete a project.

I didn't know about any of the controversies surrounding the organization until just now. I need to read up on that!

Good luck to you, @dollyt8! And to answer your questions, I always tracked my progress in a google spreadsheet. I'd set up a set up a graph that took data from a column of cells which I inputted my word count into after each writing session. To hold myself accountable I'd usually rely on myself or one to two other people that'd try it with me.

I've never participated in NaNoWriMo. There were things from the start that I just didn't care for (as someone whose writing process involves editing/revising at the same time as writing, I never liked their emphasis on 'just get the words done' at the expense of writing them well; I get why that was their focus, it just wasn't for me).

For those that like the idea of NaNo though, but don't want to join in it this year, maybe look into 4 the Words instead. I'm don't use them, but I know a lot of other writers that do and apparently they have their own challenges.

So it seems like no one is really interested in updating weekly progress, but since I said I would, I'm still going to share my weekly word counts every Saturday.

I just made it to 7,506 words. I've also been shooting for 1,667 per day, so I'm quite happy with my progress. Honestly, it's been going way faster than I expected! And I definitely need the buffer considering how busy I usually am during the last week of November.
