Hello

I read most of the first book about 30 years ago. It was almost undoubtedly blue, with a mountain picture on the cover. The beings had superpowers that allowed them to move mountains and change the direction of gigantic rivers with their minds. The apparent passage in my mind is that normal humans were travelling down one of these massive rivers in an unsinkable vessel that allowed them to safely navigate through the gigantic rapids. That's about all I can remember and describe. Any help with the name/author will be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Hmm...maybe, maybe, it's the Saga of the Exiles tetralogy by Julian May set in the Pliocene era.

In that, (selected) people have torcs that enhance their telekinetic power. One character has her natural (strong) ability enhanced through trauma and she is able to cause the Zanclean flood - breaking the barrier (which is now the Gibraltar Strait) and causing the Mediterranean Sea.

The versions I have do have blue covers with mountains in the background...

Yes, Saga of the Exiles.
The river trip down the pleistocene Rhine or Rhone or Danube is what is being described here.

Hello Matteo

Wow, yep, this is the one! Fantastic, I have been trying to find the series on and off for about a year. I only stumbled on this site by chance. I am so excited. Thank you so much. :love:

@hitmouse

Indeed, it is. I have already found a set and purchased it on eBay. I can start reading in about one week. Can't wait.

Glad I could help!

It's a good read. In fact I re-read them about a year ago and enjoyed them again - although, if I'm being critical, I think it could have been a bit tighter and finished off sooner.

It's a good read.

Thanks! Had never heard of it, but you've also inspired me to reread Julian May's "Dune Roller" since it was one of those stories for which I couldn't find the title for 15 years.

(Now that you're on a roll... you wouldn't happen to remember any stories about "umbrella-like aliens", would you? That's okay; none of us do either. :p)

Although only half of them are aliens, and they don't usually move mountains (although one of them cracked through bedrock to release a water source), the books of The People by Zenna Henderson have similar talents.
