Hello,

I am trying to find a military science fiction book I read back between 2000-2010. It was a paperback I bought at Barnes and Noble.

I don’t remember much about the cover, title, or main character. I just remember he was fighting an alien enemy made of energy (fire or lava like). There was a major battle near or on a mountain and one in a valley.

Here are some of the details I remember about the alien enemy in the book:

- The alien enemies were energy like fire or lava and I believe they were drone bodies.

- Anything they touched would melt or burn.

- They moved slowly, at a walk, never running.

- They were hard to kill with regular guns. They used missiles and rockets a lot to kill them.

- When they were killed/defeated they would cool off and crumble.

- No matter how many the main character killed more would spawn.

I know that’s not a lot to go on, but I’m hoping it will be recognized by someone. Thanks ahead of time for any help you can provide.

Chris

I looked at the title and thought "Wow! that's right in wheelhouse." But sorry, I don't have a clue. But a series of books with another near undefeatable alien the "lankys" is Martin Kloos' "Frontlines" series. The first one is "Terms of Enlistment."

Thanks! I’ll check out that series. I appreciate the response.
