Garth Nix
born Victoria, Australia: 19 July 1963 (born Melbourne and brought up in Canberra).
Garth Nix is an Australian author of children's and young adult fantasy novels and short fiction.
He has also worked as a literary agent, marketing consultant, book editor, book publicist, book sales representative, bookseller, and as a part-time soldier in the Australian Army Reserve. He has been a full-time writer since 2001.
His first published SFF was the short story Sam, Cars and the Cuckoo (1984) in Warlock magazine. He has published over 60 short fiction stories, some of them collected in Across the Wall (2005) and To Hold the Bridge (2015).
He is best known for writing his novels Old Kingdom/ Abhorsen milieu series, beginning with Sabriel (1995); his Seventh Tower series, beginning with The Fall (2000); and his Keys to the Kingdom series, beginning with Mister Monday (2003).
Other notable standalone children’s novels are: The Ragwitch (1990), Shade's Children (1997), Confusion of Princes (2012), Newt's Emerald (2015), Frogkisser! (2017), Angel Mage (2019) and We Do Not Welcome Our Ten-Year-Old Overlord (2024).
He frequently has co-written with fellow author Sean Williams.
