China Tom Miéville

China Miéville is a British author of science fiction and fantasy (primarily of new weird or fantastika) or dark fantasy, urban fantasy, weird fiction and steampunk, and as novels, short stories, comic books, and essays.

His first novel published was King Rat (1998), a blending together of elements of fairy tale and contemporary urban fantasy.

He is probably best known for the novel Perdido Street Station (2000) which is set in the world of Bas-Lag, where both magic and steampunk technology exist. Two more independent works set in the same fictional world followed, The Scar (2002) and Iron Council (2004).

He is also known for The City & the City (2009), a novel concerning a murder investigation in two adjacent cities whose citizens must ignore each other, blending weird fiction with a police procedural.

Embassytown (2011) is a science fiction novel that explores language and communication on an alien world.
